Natchez-Adams School District Guidelines for Possible School Closures due to COVID

A decision will be made on a daily evaluation of the statistics for each school. The statistics that will be considered are number of staff and student absences due to COVID illnesses, significant increase in COVID cases, or other factors.

Closing of School Homework Virtual Learning
  • Will be based on the number of employees absent and the ability of the administrative staff to cover those classes.
  • Substantial number of students being out (number to be determined)
  • Interruption of student transportation or transportation becomes challenging
  • If numbers are high at one school, it may necessitate only closing one school.
  • If numbers are high in two elementary schools or a combination of junior high, Freshman and high schools, we may have to close school.
  • Closure will result in a reduction in holiday breaks or an extended school year (ESY). This decision is based on the fact that 50% of parents have not picked up Chromebooks.
  • We will follow our regular homework make-up policy with an additional five-day grace period.
  • Teachers must document student requests for homework. The request should include the date requested and date returned.
  • Virtual learning will be provided for those with documented chronic illnesses and/or who are immunocompromised, or who are at higher risk for complications associated with COVID-19.
  • Virtual learning is not required for students who are undergoing a 5-day quarantine. Students will receive makeup work with submission deadlines from teachers upon the students' return and with documentation of exposure and/or positive status.
  • It is at the teacher's discretion to offer virtual if the teacher and student has established communication as to the expectation, however, students are not required to log in. However, it is required that teachers offer makeup work to those students.
