While some students see summer break as a chance to enjoy time off, with the support of his grandmother Clarice Martin and encouragement from his middle school counselor Monica King, Brionne Rice decided to spend six days at the University of Memphis learning to build and program robots. Pathways to STEM is an NYLF program that focuses on career exploration and exposing students to different potential career paths.
Brionne was nominated by Morgantown Middle School Guidance Counselor Monica King. “Students learn a wide variety of things,” King said she chose to nominate Brionne because she felt he’d be successful at the camp and get a lot out of it. The students learn so much and the opportunity is great for them.” “It was exciting to design and program the robots to work with a cell phone,” he said, “the experience has made me excited about a possible career path in engineering.”
