Natchez Early College Students Receive FAFSA Assistance

A workshop attended by NEC students seeking help with financial aid was held in the multi-purpose room at Co-Lin Natchez on Friday, November 15. The workshop was conducted by Natchez Early College Guidance Counselor Dorothy Parker and Co-Lin Natchez Financial Aid Assistant Jasmine Johnson. Parker said “The purpose of the workshops is to make students aware of the process and the best time to complete the FAFSA application so that they receive the best benefit. It is a good way to share information with several students at once.”
Information regarding Mississippi Scholarships was made available for each student. “A huge advantage of the workshop is that students get an opportunity to get their questions answered one on one,” said Jasmine Johnson.
“The paperwork took only about 30 minutes to complete,” NEC student Breonna McDonald said. “I plan to attend ULM to become a dental hygienist. Now that the paperwork is complete I’m just waiting on a response.” McDonald has a 3.5 GPA.
Jeremiah Lutch plans to attend the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus in the Fall. He will graduate this spring with a high school diploma from Natchez-Adams School District as well as an associate degree from Co-Lin Natchez. “I chose Mississippi University for Women because it is small and family-oriented and I can go in as a transfer and receive a scholarship as a freshman.”
