Alumni Spotlight for this month is Jennifer P. Williams, RRT, APRN, FNP-C

Jennifer Williams is a native of Natchez, MS, and a 1992 graduate of Natchez High School. Upon completion, she attended Copiah Lincoln Community College, Natchez Campus and received an Associate’s in Applied Science in Respiratory Care Technology. While at Co-Lin, Ms. Williams was voted Freshman Class Favorite, received the Student Government Leadership Award, was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and was elected Miss Co-Lin Natchez. She was the speaker at Colin’s 26th Annual Commencement. Ms. Williams went on to begin her career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Natchez Community Hospital, starting as a Staff Therapist, and working her way up to Cardiopulmonary Supervisor. After 10 years of working in respiratory, Ms. Williams enrolled at Alcorn State University School of Nursing, and obtained her Associate’s degree in nursing in 2007, and was recognized as the “Outstanding Associate Degree Student” upon graduation. Ms. Williams remained at Natchez Community hospital to pursue her nursing career, beginning on the Medical Surgical/ Telemetry Unit, and eventually transferring to the Intensive Care Unit. In addition to having experience in critical care, Ms. Williams has worked in the areas of psych and emergency care.
 
In 2009, Ms. Williams received her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Alcorn, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Nursing Society. She received her Master’s degree in nursing in 2013 from Alcorn, with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner, graduating with High Distinction. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Mississippi, a certified medical examiner for the US Department of Transportation, performs health assessments for Logistics Health Incorporated, and is actively completing the requirements to become a Certified Diabetes Educator.
 
Ms. Williams is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses of Mississippi, District VI. She is also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, where she is a certified Youth Auxiliary Advisor. She is the proprietor of Kustom Kreations 4U, LLC, and is currently employed as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Jefferson Comprehensive Health Center and at Natchez After Hours Clinic
To our current students, do not let anyone’s negative comments in reference to a “public school’s education" stigmatize you. Remain focused, and do not deviate from your chosen path, as we are just as intelligent, competitive, and successful as the next person.
