West Elementary School first-graders earn end-of-the-year awards and recognition

A grand celebration was held at West Elementary School on Monday, May 20. First-grade students were honored for their academic and personal achievement. Proud parents and family members crowded into the school cafeteria to witness their students’ recognition.

Jaxon Davis, Kathryn Overby, Mo’Riah McGriff, and Rayven Williams led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. The 1st graders welcomed guest with “End of School Year ABCs.”

First-grade teachers presented students with certificates, medals, and trophies. In order to receive awards, students had to have maintained all A’s, all A’s and B’s, good citizenship, or perfect attendance throughout the school year. Students were also recognized for having the highest average in their class in reading, science, math, and social studies. Those students showing the most growth and proficiency in IReady math and reading were honored. Students who had gone above and beyond in the Accelerated Reader Program have received awards.
