The Natchez-Adams School District was well represented at the Mississippi Jr. Beta Club Convention in Biloxi, MS. Students from West Elementary, McLaurin Elementary, Frazier Elementary, Morgantown Middle, and Robert Lewis Magnet were all about business as they traveled to the Mississippi Gulf Coast on Sunday, March 17, 2019. Each school participated in various academic and talent competitions
throughout the three-day conference.
Robert Lewis Magnet School received the Gold Key Award for growth in membership, conference attendance, and placed in multiple categories. Angelica King placed third in 6th grade Language Arts, and Timothy Carpenter placed 5th in 7th grade Language Arts. Gabby Remy placed 5th in the poetry
category. Frazier Elementary’s Kendra-Leigh McDonald placed 3rd in 4th grade Language Arts, and McLaurin’s Patrick Felton also received a 3 rd place finish in 5th grade Language Arts. D’Nya Smith White from McLaurin was the runner-up in the Solo, Duo, or Trio competition. The McLaurin Beta Steppers came in fourth in the group competition.
West Elementary received the Gold Key Award for growth in membership, conference attendance, and placed in multiple categories. Tiana Jones came away with a fourth-place award in 5th grade Language Arts. Mrs. Loran Scott received a 5 Year Sponsor Service Award. West Elementary students Halle Dixon, Kahari McNeal, Cedric Owens, Isaiah Pierce, Keyashah Thomas, Armani Ward, and ZaNiyah Washington wowed the crowd and judges to earn a first-place finish in the performing arts category. Those students will travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the Jr. National Beta Convention in June to compete. They will also rehearse with choreographer Annie Harlow to prepare with other schools from across the nation for an opening conference performance and a “Flash Mob” in downtown Oklahoma City.
