Morgantown Middle School students make plans for the future

By Rita Brooks
The Morgantown Career Fair conducted Wednesday, February 6 was about helping students find the answer to that age-old question, “what would you like to be when you grow up?” The Career Fair was the 3rd annual event and featured local professionals who used interactions that allowed students an opportunity to ask questions and explore what it would take to be successful in the career.
Among the professionals and organizations who met with the students were firefighters, veterinarians, photographers, city officials, transportation specialist, project directors, pharmacists, attorneys, accountants, graphic designers, entrepreneurs, and many more. There were also representatives from the local community college and university. Each presenter shared information about their respective fields, such as the education and skills required, potential salary, challenges, and necessary personality traits.
“I want to be a fashion designer,” said Crystyahn Ray. “My fashion line will be called ‘Be Yourself.’ I would like to create fashions that let women know they are not alone, no matter if they are big or small, tall or short, light or dark.”
Veterinary medicine seemed to pique the interest of Morgantown Middle School seventh-grader Cassia Washington after she’d spent time with Shirani Hickman from Natchez Veterinary Clinic and her female heeler KK. KK was brought to the clinic with a gunshot wound which caused her to lose a leg. KK seemed to enjoy the love and attention she received from the students.
Morgantown Middle School counselors Monica King and Sonya Mars are grateful to all of the professionals for donating their time to share their talents and information about their careers with our students.
